A highly regarded construction lawyer in Canada, Bryan acts as legal counsel to all aspects of the construction industry, with an emphasis on construction and insurance contracts. He also acts as an arbitrator and mediator in complex construction disputes. Bryan was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2005.
Bryan is respected by his peers and has been listed in the National Post “Best Lawyers List” as one of the best construction lawyers in Canada, in Who’s Who Legal as a foremost international legal practitioner in construction law and is “repeatedly recommended” in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading practitioner in construction law. His legal advice is sought out by design professionals, insurers, owners, contractors, developers, and construction managers. Most of his clients are leaders in the construction industry who look to Bryan to provide practical solutions to their legal problems and keep them in business and out of the court system.
Bryan was an adjunct professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of British Columbia from 1972 to 2015, lecturing undergraduate and graduate courses in the legal aspects of engineering and project management.
The author of ACEC “Document No. 31,” Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and Canadian Council of Professional Engineers standard engineering contracts and Guidelines to Design Professional Practice, Bryan regularly writes for and contributes to numerous construction-related publications. He is also a sought-after speaker at construction law seminars and workshops.
Bryan is a Founding Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, an organization consisting of leading, high-profile construction lawyers across Canada. A member of many construction-related organizations, Bryan is a past Chairman of the National and British Columbia Construction Law Sections of the Canadian Bar Association. He also served on the Construction Dispute Resolution Advisory Committee to the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre in Vancouver.
