Isla joined the firm in November 2021 as a Legal Director in the Glasgow office in the Catastrophic Injury and Large Loss team.

Isla has spent the past 18 years acting for insurers, local authorities and private individuals in personal injury actions in the Court of Session, All Scotland Personal Injury Court and the Sheriff Courts.  She has extensive experience investigating catastrophic injury claims and has a particular interest in brain injuries. Isla routinely deals with employer’s liability, public liability and road traffic claims and is frequently instructed to carry out detailed pre litigation liability investigations.

Isla has been described as “extremely clever, personable and thorough, leaving no stone unturned when preparing a case”. Legal 500 Personal Injury, Defendant 2018.

Isla is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law and is a tutor in civil litigation on the Diploma In Legal Practice at Glasgow University.

Experience

• Successfully arguing that a personal injury action involving a cyclist proceeding through road works was lacking in relevancy and specification at Debate.
• Acting for an uninsured Danish national in a civil action in the Court of Session following prosecution.
• Defending a complex Court of Session fatal claim involving parties from South East Asia where issues of applicable law were raised in addition to the presence of vapour lock in the insured vehicle.
• Successfully defending an employer’s liability claim involving an alleged slip on stairs for an international company against Counsel.
• Providing detailed contractual advice to an insurer following a fire in a snooker hall resulting in successful repudiation.
• Securing an advantageous settlement in a fatal claim where detailed investigations confirmed suspicions that the familial relationships presented were inaccurate resulting. Several of the deceased’s family members were persuaded to appear as witnesses for the defender in a civil jury trial.
