As a member of Clyde & Co's Personal Injuries and Insurance Department in Hong Kong, she has experience in all aspects of insurance litigation including advising on policy-related issues and defence of claims involving Motor Liability, Employees' Compensation, and Public Liability.  She has ample experience in representing and defending entities in various sectors such as premises’ owners, construction companies, catering companies and transportation service providers.  She has experience in advising and acting for quasi government organisation on motor accident cases involving no third party liability insurance coverage and hit-and-run issues.  She also has experience in handling professional indemnity claim and the defence of medical negligence claims against health professionals.

Prior to joining Clyde & Co, she worked in the insurance litigation team of another international law firm in Hong Kong with extensive exposure to casualty and insurance related litigation matters.

Sandy is native in Cantonese and fluent in English and Mandarin. Sandy is admitted as a lawyer in the High Court of Hong Kong.

Experience
  • Advised a local insurer in a personal injury claim of over HK$20 million brought by a plaintiff with paraplegic injuries as a result of an industrial accident. Roles included interviewing the witnesses of the accident, negotiating with the co-defendant to reach a favourable apportionment on liability, liaising with quantum experts in 5 specialities and reviewing their evidence and rendering detailed advice to insurer client on the reasonable quantum and approach for settlement negotiations
  • Involved in the successful defence of an unwarranted work injury claim resulting in dismissal of the claim after trial with indemnity costs ordered against the plaintiff employee (DCPI 125/2013)
  • Advising insurer clients on policy-related issues (including coverage issues and policy interpretations) and the overall case strategy and conduct of the defence of claims
  • Advising and defending quasi-government organisation in motor accident claims without third party insurance coverage and hit-and-run cases
