Clyde & Co’s Washington, DC, office maintains a leading-edge practice in the global aviation industry, focused on complex regulatory, enforcement, contractual, accident/incident response, and antitrust matters. The office also offers a nationally recognized litigation practice focused on complex insurance disputes. In addition, our Washington, DC, office serves as the hub for our dedicated Regulatory & Investigations capability in the Americas, reflecting growing client demand for agile advice on regulatory, enforcement, sanctions, export controls, and white-collar crime matters.

Our highly experienced lawyers advise airlines, advanced air mobility companies, airport sponsors and developers, aerospace OEMs, Maintenance Repair & Overhaul companies, lenders/lessors, private equity/hedge funds, real estate developers, online travel firms, social media companies, and other aviation companies. The office is also home to our Head of Regulatory & Investigations, White-Collar Crime and Sanctions, Americas, and Co-Head of White-Collar Crime and Sanctions, EMEA, underscoring the strategic importance of Washington, DC, as a center for sophisticated cross-border regulatory and investigations work.

Regulatory and enforcement risk continues to rise globally, with US authorities playing an increasingly influential role across borders, particularly in relation to sanctions, export controls, anti-corruption, and other compliance matters. Our Regulatory & Investigations team helps clients navigate these evolving risks through practical, commercially focused advice and representation in investigations, enforcement actions, and compliance challenges.

We have litigated aviation disputes in state and federal courts on a wide range of issues, including class-action cases against airlines; NEPA-related environmental challenges to infrastructure development; and airport access and airline certification. Members of our team have been involved in some of the highest-profile aviation cases, such as the Pan Am 103 bombing over Lockerbie, the ValuJet crash (representing clients in post-crash criminal and administrative proceedings), the 9/11 terrorist attack (representing a major airline and security screening companies), and the grounding of the B787 Dreamliner.

We also regularly represent insurers in high-exposure claims involving general liability insurance coverage for mass torts and environmental liability and involving coverage for first-party property damage, construction defect, and product defect/product recall.

Clyde & Co is one of the largest international law firms in the United States. With 17 offices across the country, we are well-placed to help clients succeed in a volatile world in which managing risk requires experience across a range of business areas and economies. Through our integrated platform, clients benefit from market-leading capabilities spanning aviation, insurance, litigation, regulatory & investigations, and white-collar crime and sanctions across the Americas and globally.
