John advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters including sales and acquisitions; inward investment and local establishment by way of subsidiary, branch or joint venture; corporate restructuring; banking and finance; and general corporate and regulatory governance matters for domestic and international regulated entities.

He acts for leading Australian, London market and European insurers and reinsurers on a wide range of matters including insurance mergers and acquisitions, insurance portfolio transfers and corporate restructuring.

He also advises on privacy regulation, cyber breaches and risk, and in relation to the development and implementation of data breach response strategies, frameworks and plans. He has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to their legal and regulatory obligations, the storage and protection of privacy and data, and on the application of the Privacy Act to insurers, credit providers and other entities. He works regularly with our international offices in advising international clients on the Australian privacy regime and its interaction with international standards.

John previously worked with the corporate team of an international law firm for five years, both in London and in Dublin. He was admitted as a solicitor in Ireland in 2009, England and Wales in 2010 and New South Wales in 2016.

He is a regular contributor to the Australian Financial Review, Insurance News, the Asia Insurance Review and has written and presented recently in relation to the regulation of cyber security and cyber breach response.
