Matthew’s experience covers a broad range of shipping matters including charterparty disputes, ship casualties, bunker claims and disputes involving carriage of goods by air, sea and road.
On the insurance side, Matthew advises clients on various types of insurance products, including, among others, marine insurance.
Matthew also handles criminal litigation. He is in the Fiat List of the Department of Justice and handles prosecution as an advocate. He worked as a public prosecutor for the Department of Justice in 2009.
Matthew is recognised in Chambers Asia Pacific 2018 as a leading individual in the area of Shipping Litigation in China/Hong Kong. Chambers states: Matthew "possesses good commercial sense". Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2018 states: the "technically strong" Matthew Lam is "able to handle complex matters and identify key issues in a succinct manner", and is particularly accomplished at handling cargo disputes and marine insurance matters.
Matthew speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin and is admitted to practise in Hong Kong and England and Wales.
