In Australia, Maurice's is seen at the forefront of contentious and non-contentious work in shipping, commodities, international trade, insurance, aviation, ports and logistics and offshore energy. He advises General Counsel, senior executives and their companies' insurers on matters involving risk, contracting and disputes litigation. In the boardroom and the courtroom, Maurice's approach to early evaluation of risks and corporate exposure produces cost-effective resolution of disputes.

Commodities, resources and mining: Maurice has accumulated significant experience acting in a large number of Australian and international commodity arbitrations and court proceedings. He has been involved in the negotiation and documentation of many significant commercial contracts used by leading Australian and international participants in the hard minerals, biofuels, grain, wool and cotton industries. 

Shipping: Maurice specialises in domestic and international litigation and arbitration relating to COAs, charterparties, bills of lading, FPSO contracts, breakbulk and project cargo logistics, collisions, allisions, vessel arrests, oil pollution prosecutions, port & wharf damages and access disputes, and ship sale, purchase & registration matters.

Aviation: Maurice has experience in handling significant aviation liability claims (including catastrophic major loss and attritional claims) through various legal systems in Asia Pacific, most recently advising on major losses in Malaysia and the Ukraine and high-value personal injury and cargo claims across the APAC region.

Offshore oil & gas and offshore construction: Maurice has advised governments, P&I clubs, oilfield operators and offshore service providers in relation to operating in the JPDA in the Timor Sea and off the Australian North West Shelf. He has been on the Emergency Oil Spill Response Team as principal external legal counsel for BHPB, Saudi Aramco and Vela International Marine. He also regularly represents foreign offshore services contractors in relation to risk management and tendering for offshore oil & gas projects and disputes arising under contracts.
