Paul has represented oil majors, national oil companies and energy and natural resources trading houses and producers in high profile and high value claims.
Paul is known for his strategic thinking, commercial pragmatism and commitment to client care. He is assiduous in ensuring that he is on top of any dispute he leads and that the client feels in full control of the strategy underlying a case, the processes adopted to achieve it and how much it will cost.
He particularly enjoys guiding a client through complex disputes with technical aspects, making sure throughout that the right resources and external expertise are used. He seeks to create relationships with clients that last and to get to understand the aspects of their businesses that make them unique.
Paul's case load consists mainly of international arbitrations but he also has extensive experience of Commercial Court cases. In all cases he will offer employing alternative dispute resolution regimes, such as mediation, in tandem. He has conducted arbitrations under the rules of the LCIA, ICC, LMAA, UNCITRAL as well as ad hoc under the Arbitration Act. He has conducted his arbitrations predominantly in London, but also in Paris, Singapore, Vancouver, Lagos and Dusseldorf for clients from all over the world.
He is known for the clarity of his drafting and will use technology to create compelling supporting illustrations from the available data.
Paul is a former Chair of the IBA's UK Energy Law Group.
