Robert specialises in dispute resolution and international arbitration, with a particular focus on oil & gas, shipping and international trade.

An English qualified lawyer, Robert has been in the UAE since December 2006 and has an in-depth understanding of the local oil & gas and shipping markets. Robert has wide-ranging experience of dispute resolution in oil & gas, international trading, shipping, transportation, construction and general commercial litigation. His clients include oil companies, rig and vessel owners, offshore service contractors, commodity traders, ports & terminal operators, shipyards and marine insurers.

In overseeing Clyde & Co’s IT&T offering in the region, Robert spends significant time servicing clients in KSA, Oman, Qatar and Azerbaijan and has gained significant experience dealing with EPC contract disputes, offshore incidents (collisions, allisions, rig punch-throughs and fires), as well as ship build / ship conversion disputes.

As well as litigating before the English High Court and courts of the GCC including the DIFC and the Dubai World Tribunal, Robert has significant arbitration experience both in the UAE and internationally, including ad hoc and institutional (LCIA, LMAA, GAFTA, FOSFA, ICC, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA). Robert also has experience in matters ancillary to arbitration, including obtaining freezing injunctions, obtaining and defending security for costs orders, as well as both enforcing awards and challenging defective awards.

Robert is ranked in and noted as “a very good lawyer” in Chambers & Partners, while he has been described in Legal 500 as "impress[ing] with his grasp of the key issues and assessment of how far to go in negotiations" and a source of “good, calm and practical advice”.
