Inquest training films now available

We are pleased to announce that a series of training films are now available on the NHS Resolution website. Produced in collaboration with Clyde & Co's Gemma Brannigan, Her Majesty's Coroner's Office, Serjeant's Inn Chambers and St Thomas's Hospital, these films are aimed at healthcare staff who are called to give evidence at an inquest as a witness.

The first three films cover the following topics:

  • How to prepare for an inquest: Justine Sharpe, Safety and Learning team interviews Gemma Brannigan, Assistant Coroner and partner at Clyde & Co, to uncover practical advice on what to expect and how to prepare to be a medical witness in an inquest.
  • Giving evidence at an inquest: Nageena Khalique QC and Pankaj Chandak, NHS transplant surgeon provide an illustrative example of a well prepared witness giving evidence at an inquest; including typical questions legal representatives ask.
  • A conversation with a Senior Coroner: Martin Grant from the NHS Resolution Safety and Learning Team in conversation with Mr Andrew Harris, Senior Coroner Inner London South who shares a brief overview on the Coroner’s role and the importance of candour and transparency.

These short films do not present a 'whole picture' of an inquest; they have been designed to apply to  different situations and to stimulate questions and discussion. We hope the films help dispel some of the misconceptions about the role of the Coroner, and help all healthcare staff to prepare to be a witness. More films will be coming soon.

Please click on the button at the bottom of the page to download a flyer which can be circulated to other colleagues who may be interested in viewing the films.
