6 FEBRUARY 2026

US tariffs

  • On 2 February 2026, the US announced that tariffs on Indian imports into the US would be reduced from 25 percent to 18 percent, following the countries agreeing a framework for an interim trade agreement, whereby India also agreed to stop purchasing Russian oil.
  • As part of the deal, the US has also withdrawn the additional 25 percent duty it imposed on certain Indian products, such as pharmaceuticals and electronics.

When will the tariffs come into effect?

  • The reduced tariff of 18 percent on Indian imports into the US took effect on 2 February 2026.
