Nicole specialises in all aspects of financial regulatory law, including in insurance. Nicole advises various insurers, intermediaries and other clients in the financial services industries, on a wide variety of matters, including licensing of insurers, reinsurers, branches of foreign reinsurers, cell captive insurers and microinsurers, intermediary licensing and regulation.

She has also advised entities in the medical schemes industry and has general litigation expertise.

In addition to the above, Nicole has knowledge on the laws regulating digital platforms or similar applications in South Africa and compliance with data protection laws. To compliment her experience as a practicing attorney, Nicole was in-house legal counsel for a registered bank and has experience in banking regulation.

Nicole commenced her articles in 2011 and was admitted as an attorney in May 2013. She holds an LLB (cum laude) from the University of South Africa.

Experience

Her recent work experience includes:

• Advising insurers and reinsurers on all aspects of establishing a presence (as a licence insurer or as a branch of a foreign reinsurer) in South Africa, including drafting the first bespoke application form for approval to operate as a branch.
• Advising several insurers on transfers of insurance business.
• Advising several intermediaries and other clients in the financial services market on a wide variety of matters including financial services related corporate transactions, international clients on the establishment and structuring of business operations in Africa and financial services regulation in South Africa.
• Advising on a variety of legal matters relating to the medical schemes industry.
• Advising on compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act.
