Peter has experience in both direct insurance and indirect insurance-related work. His experience includes interpreting policy wordings, advising on insurance coverage, and acting in matters involving subrogated recoveries and the defence of subrogated claims.

He also has experience advising on cyber-related matters, including issues arising from cyber incidents, cyber insurance policies, and associated coverage considerations.

Peter also has experience in litigation, having acted for both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of disputes. His litigation experience includes advising clients on strategy, assessing and managing risk, drafting pleadings and other court documents, and representing clients throughout the various stages of legal proceedings.

Finally, Peter has assisted in advising clients on projects and construction matters, including contract administration, contractual risk allocation, and the resolution of disputes arising from infrastructure and construction projects.

Experience
  • Assisting on a defence of a high-profile litigation in the High Court for an organ of state involving a claim of approximately R9 billion.
  • Investigating a highly complex insurance matter spanning multiple claims, insureds, and related issues, culminating in the discovery and identification of coordinated fraudulent conduct between the various insured parties.
  • Conducting a review of 11 co-insurers policy wordings, slips and addendums in a complex advise on cover for a claim of approximately R1.5 billion.
  • Conducting a detailed review of a super-subcontract agreement for an EPC contractor and advising on contractual gaps, risk allocation, and the incorporation of necessary flow-down provisions from the main contract.
  • Assisting in bringing an urgent rei vindicatio application in the High Court to recover a small fleet of vehicles when the tenant refused to return the vehicles at termination of the lease agreement.
  • Assisting in the defence of a South African retailer in an arbitration where the opponents sought approximately R300 million in a product liability dispute.
  • Advising client on their obligations in terms of section 22 of POPIA arising from the leakage of private data while using an AI platform.
