Ross Blyth

Full Profile

Ross advises companies of all sizes, including major operators and national oil companies, on the structuring, drafting and negotiation of key agreements across each stage of the value chain. With a particular focus on upstream and service sector clients, he primarily supports the MENA region, as well as having gained experience working in the UKCS.

Ross has advised various clients on a wide range of commercial matters within the sector, including spending a significant amount of time on secondment to Qatar energy LNG where he gained valuable insight and experience in the major projects team at the world’s largest LNG Company.

Ross is admitted as a solicitor in Scotland, qualifying in 2023. Since his qualification, Ross has been working in the oil and gas sector on both Middle East and UKCS matters, moving to the MENA region in 2024. He completed his undergraduate LLB at the University of Aberdeen in 2020, before gaining his Diploma in Legal Practice from the same University in 2021.

Prior to joining Clyde and Co, Ross trained at a law firm in Glasgow before moving to Brodies LLP in his native Scotland, subsequently transferring to their Middle East office – Brodies Middle East LLP in 2024.

Experience

• Has been key legal support throughout the tender process for the supply of goods and services necessary for the expansion and maintenance of the North Field in Qatar, as well assisting in Contractor claim management and pre dispute diligence while on secondment to the non-contentious construction ‘Major Projects’ team at QatarEnergyLNG.*
• Reviewed, advised on and assisted in the management of major EPC contracts that are both in place and to be established in Qatar while on secondment. This included but was not limited to the handling of real time contractor issues, ensuring compliance from all parties with the terms of the EPC contract, management of contractor claims for extensions of time and advising on warranty issues.*
• Advised on, drafted and negotiated a range of ancillary agreements, including software licensing agreements, vessel reservation agreements, and collaboration agreements while on secondment.*
• Advised on and contributed to the comprehensive overhaul of a Major Operator in Qatar’s entire suite of key procurement contracts.*
• Drafted and reviewed a variety of Offshore Services Agreements for a variety of organisations.*
• Assisted in detailed diligence exercises for corporate purchasers in the sector.*
• Played a key role in the team conducting a comprehensive diligence exercise in order to ascertain the decommissioning liability of a major US operator’s interests in the UKCS.*
• Assisted in the sale and transportation of an offshore vessel to a dry dock for decommissioning in the North East of Scotland.*
