Guy has worked within the insurance market since 1993, initially within the in-house advisory team of Sedgwick Group PLC, then the UK's largest insurance broker but now part of Marsh. In 1997 he returned to private practice where he started focusing on professional indemnity claims and insurance and reinsurance disputes (both treaty and facultative).
Before specializing in construction disputes, the professional indemnity claims ranged from a case against naval architects to ones against patent agents and insurance brokers, one such claim against a broker involving the insurance of Lloyd's New Central Fund. Around the same time, he advised a reinsurer in arbitration disputes with insurers on US workers' compensation scheme business.
For about 15 years, however, he has specialized in construction disputes, initially advising on policy coverage but increasingly advising contractors, architects, engineers and surveyors on the underlying cases.
The majority of such disputes have been, and still are, professional indemnity claims against construction professionals, but some have involved claims on project policies, public liability claims and insurance, and public procurement. He has been at Clyde and Co since 2014 and his practice includes both defence work and policy coverage advice.
