The focus of his practice has been on marine and non-marine insurance matters involving pursuit of cargo and hull recovery claims, as well as defending claims involving liability insurance. He is an expert in general insurance law and insurance contract and policy terms and has extensive experience in policy coverage issues regarding marine insurance, property insurance, liability insurance and reinsurance.

Christian is a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the Diploma in Insurance issued by the Chartered Insurance Institute ("Dip CII"). He is also qualified in Insurance Brokerage and Insurance Adjustment by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission. Christian is named as a Rising Star in both Insurance and Shipping categories in China by Legal 500.

Christian is a native speaker of Chinese (Mandarin, Shanghainese and basic Cantonese). He is fluent in English and also speaks basic French. Christian is admitted to practise in England and Wales.

Experience

• Providing comprehensive legal service to various international insurers involved in the Tianjin Port fire and explosion dated 12 August 2015, including providing legal advice on policy coverage issues and recovery involving property insurance, cargo insurance and reinsurance, and attending negotiations with other insurers and regulators.
• Assisting an international insurer involved in a catastrophic fire in providing legal action on policy coverage issues, participating in negotiations with the insured, and advising potential recovery against liable parties.
• Participating in handling various catastrophic marine accidents ("MOL Comfort", "Maersk Honam" etc) in co-ordinating the investigation, defending claims involving general average and salvage, and arranging recovery against liable parties.
• Providing advice to a Japanese insurer on the legal and practical issues of marine cargo insurance / forwarder liability insurance in China and the UK.
• Providing advice to a transnational trading company on policy coverage issues regarding property insurance and business interruption insurance.
• Providing advice to a European insurer on the practice of clinical trial liability insurance.
• Advising a Chinese insurer in defending legal action involving product liability insurance and providing advice on policy coverage issues in China and the USA.
