Kevin B. Madison

Counsel

Full Profile

As counsel, Kevin’s practice primarily focuses on litigation, insurance and risk management. Leveraging his experiences, he provides risk analysis to both insurers and insured clients, advises them and represents them in a variety of claims, such as personal injury, professional negligence, commercial and general liability, as well as contract and coverage disputes. Having worked as in-house counsel for a national insurance company, he has extensive experience in matters involving motor vehicle accidents, subrogated loss recovery, sexual battery, large fire loss, and construction, surety, tort and property damage claims.

A skilled litigator and negotiator, Kevin has appeared as trial counsel before the Alberta Court of King’s Bench and the Provincial Court of Alberta in numerous civil and criminal cases. He regularly curates pleadings, affidavits, legal briefs, and other court matters and attends examinations for discovery. In addition, he has represented clients in private mediations and judicial dispute resolutions on multiple civil litigation cases.

With a perceptive, nuanced and fact-based approach, Kevin addresses all legal matters while considering his clients’ long-term targets. When handling complex litigious cases, he does not hesitate to roll up his sleeves and to prioritize the resolution in a way that is mutually beneficial and cost-effective. Moreover, Kevin fastidiously documents all available facts so that his arguments leave very little room for dispute. Process driven, he always provides his clients with a transparent roadmap, defining the situation and potential courses of action.

Kevin frequently spends his time volunteering for organizations such as SOS Children’s Villages International. Furthermore, he was previously honoured by Calgary Legal Guidance and Student Legal Assistance for his volunteer work. A fun fact about Kevin is that he won a stand-up comedy award before starting law school and that he was a cartoonist for the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law paper. Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time with his dog, drawing and hiking.
