Jervis is an Associate practicing in the Projects & Construction team at Clasis LLC. He has had experience in complex cross-border commercial litigation and arbitration disputes. Fluent in English and Mandarin, Jervis has regularly advised and represented Mandarin-speaking clients as well as PRC state-owned entities on disputes with a Singapore nexus.  

Jervis has appeared before the Singapore courts at all levels, including the State Courts, Family Justice Courts, High Court, Appellate Division, and the Court of Appeal. He has also acted in arbitrations under the rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). 

Prior to joining Clasis LLC, Jervis trained and practiced in a premier boutique dispute resolution law firm where he worked alongside a Senior Counsel across various commercial litigation and arbitration claims. 

Experience
  • Successfully argued before the Appellate Division of the High Court on novel issues surrounding the validity of service of an originating application resulting in a judgment clarifying the effect of a Notice of Appointment of Solicitor and the scope of Order 4, rule 8 (2) of the Rules of Court 2021.

  • Represented a majority unitholder of a listed business trust in various proceedings commenced across the Singapore High Court, Appellate Division, and the Court of Appeal in addition to an emergency arbitration under the HKIAC. The proceedings concerned various areas of law such as corporate insolvency and restructuring, corporate governance and minority oppression, trust law, and regulatory issues. The disputes concerned the affairs of a listed business trust with assets amounting to over SGD 1 billion.
  • Represented a claimant in an SIAC Arbitration concerning the recovery of a private aircraft that was undelivered post-sale. The emergency arbitration procedure was employed as part of the proceedings to successfully obtain an interlocutory injunction against the respondent to ground the aircraft. The arbitration also involved principles of New York contract law. 
  • Acted for  a  Chinese  state-owned  entity in a high profile suit  to  recover  loans  advanced  of around USD 40 million which also engaged issues of corporate governance and allegations of fictitious transactions.
  • Acted in a claim by a management strata title corporation against the developer and contractor of a condominium for defects within the development which resulted in a multi-million dollar settlement.
  • Advised and acted for the provider of the Law Society of Singapore’s professional indemnity scheme in relation to claims against law firms for alleged negligence and breaches of professional duties in respect of property transactions.
  • Advised a Chinese state-owned entity on various agreements with a Japanese entity in relation to the procurement of parts for the constructionof nuclear energy facilities.
