Andrew has more than 20 years’ experience advising clients on significant commercial disputes in Australia and internationally. Before joining Clyde & Co, he spent a decade practising in the Cayman Islands, where he led some of the jurisdiction’s largest and most complex international disputes. He previously practised in London for more than four years and is admitted in Western Australia, England & Wales, the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands. 

Andrew represents clients in complex, high-value disputes, with particular experience in energy and resources, infrastructure, financial services and professional services. His representative matters include leading the successful defence of HSBC in multibillion-dollar litigation arising from the Madoff fraud, defending professional liability claims of more than USD 300 million against a global accountancy firm, representing parties in USD 150 million private equity litigation involving Middle Eastern state entities, and acting in an international arbitration concerning one of the world’s largest infrastructure projects. 

Andrew regularly advises on litigation at first instance and appellate levels, and on international arbitrations across multiple seats and under a range of institutional rules. • Commercial litigation: Leading the successful defence of two HSBC group companies in decade-long litigation brought by a Madoff feeder fund in liquidation seeking more than USD 2 billion in damages, including a four-month trial and two appeals to the Privy Council.
• Commercial litigation: Acting for three defendants in USD 150 million fraud, conspiracy and related claims brought by Middle Eastern state entities in connection with an emerging markets private equity fund, including a three-month trial and an interlocutory appeal before the Privy Council.
• International arbitration: Acting for a foreign government in an EUR 800 million ICC arbitration seated in Zurich arising from the termination of a FIDIC contract for the multibillion-euro Marmaray Project involving the design and construction of a commuter railway and subsea tunnel in Istanbul, including a four-month final hearing on liability.
• Commercial litigation and international arbitration: Representing BDO in multiple audit negligence claims exceeding USD 300 million arising from a third-party fraud, involving parallel multi-jurisdictional litigation and international arbitration. 
• International arbitration: Acting for a major international oil company in concurrent SCC and LCIA arbitrations seated in Stockholm and London respectively arising from mine services contracts.
• Reinsurance: Acting for more than 40 reinsurers in respect of a business interruption claim by BHP Billiton exceeding USD 1 billion, arising from the flooding of open-pit metallurgical coal mines in Queensland, Australia.
• International arbitration: Acting for international oil companies in an LCIA arbitration seated in London arising from a contract for the USD 500 million reactivation of a drill ship in Singapore and conduct of a drilling program in Ghanaian waters.
• International arbitration: Acting for the claimant in a USD 25 million ICC arbitration seated in London concerning an investment by a private equity fund in an Israeli biotech company.
• Insolvency: Acting for Goldman Sachs in respect of USD 40 million in claims arising from the collapse of Platinum Partners Value Arbitrage Fund L.P.
