Edward Sainsbury is a partner in or London Office and a member of our disease team. He specialises in complex occupational disease claims, insurance disputes, health and safety matters and food hygiene claims. He is experienced in group litigation and is currently instructed in Hutson and ors v. Tata Steel, the British Steel Coke Oven Workers’ Litigation (“BSCOWL”) wherein hundreds of former workers at British Steel coke oven sites around the country are alleging exposure to harmful emissions leading to a variety of conditions including bladder cancer, skin cancer, COPD and chronic bronchitis (significant related Judgments include [2018] EWHC 107 (QB); [2019] EWHC 143 (QB) and [2019] EWHC 1608 (QB)).

In the ‘Cape litigation’ (CDL v CIH) Edward was involved in a multimillion-pound claim for recovery on behalf of Aviva (subsequently Swiss Re), as well representing its interests as an Interested Party in respect of the parallel Cape Product Liability action.

Edward regularly advises a large UK manufacturer in relation to HSE investigations and prosecutions. He also specialises in COVID-19 claims and risk management for both his insurer and corporate clients and currently represents a number of large UK Care Service Providers. Edward regularly presents at seminars on these topics.

Edward also leads Clyde & Co’s “Non-Asbestos Long Tail and Emerging Risks Subject Matter Group” which considers and advises clients on, amongst other things, emerging risks within the disease sector.
