Lauren Smart

A Montréal-based associate, Lauren practices in insurance coverage and monitoring, with a focus on professional liability and property insurance.

During her studies, she acted as a teaching assistant of legal English and participated in the University of Sherbrooke’s legal clinic in children’s law. She also participated in a pro bono activity aimed at raising caregiver awareness on the rights of people with mental health problems. In addition, Lauren was one of the members of her university’s animal rights committee, an issue that she takes to heart. After being admitted to the Québec Bar, she took part in the Young Bar of Montreal’s legal clinic in civil law.

Before joining Clyde & Co, Lauren worked as a law student at an Ontario firm. Afterwards, she practised for nearly four years at a generalist boutique law firm in Montréal—first as an articling student, then as a lawyer. She has had the opportunity to handle a variety of matters in several legal fields—more specifically in civil litigation—throughout her career, which allowed her to develop great versatility and a sharp intellectual curiosity. Moreover, Lauren worked on defamation and injunction matters, led negotiations outside of court, and pleaded before the Court of Québec and the Superior court of Québec. Furthermore, she has participated in all steps of the litigation process and has represented municipalities in insurance law and civil liability matters.

Fully bilingual verbally and in writing, Lauren is recognized for her distinct pragmatic approach and rigour. She knows how to adapt to each of her clients’ specific needs, analyzing each matter with meticulousness and professionalism.
