Lucy Salt is an Associate in the Catastrophic and Large Loss department and is based in our Manchester office.

Lucy works for a number of insurer clients in the defence of catastrophic and large loss claims. She regularly assists Equity Partners and Legal Directors with catastrophic and complex cases, often of high value and significant complexity.

Lucy is experienced in defending claims involving spinal injuries, including tetraplegia, complex orthopaedic injuries, brain injuries and amputations. She is also experienced in multi-party disputes and practices frequently in motor, EL, PL and Occupier's Liability cases.

Lucy also sits on our Expert and Actuarial Subject Matter Groups and is currently involved in the administration of a case load of Periodical Payment Orders for insurer clients. 

Experience

• Tetraplegia claim involving high earning male in early 30s, pleaded at over £26 million. Claimant was seeking variable PPO regarding future care and case management. Claim resolved for under £15.5 million, absent a PPO and inclusive of Claimant costs and recoverable benefits.
• Transtibial amputation claim involving French national insured. Successful in securing 50% deduction for contributory negligence on basis of Claimant's vehicle speed at the time of the accident. Pleaded at £9 million on full liability basis, resolved for £2.25 million gross of interim payments made and benefits.
• Policy dispute regarding theft of an insured vehicle. Claim successfully repudiated and discontinued by Claimant.
• Multi-party EL/PL dispute regarding slip on ice and involving severe orthopaedic injuries.
• Assisted on claim behind key judgment of AXA Insurance v EUI Ltd (t/a Elephant Insurance) [2020] EWHC 1207
