Mahmud Sawan is a London-based Associate advising on contentious and non-contentious matters, with a particular focus on the energy and construction sectors and international disputes.
Mahmud advises on construction and engineering disputes, commercial litigation and international arbitration, including disputes concerning construction, infrastructure and energy projects.
His non-contentious practice includes drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction, project and commercial agreements, and advising on contractual issues arising from construction and energy projects.
Experience
- Acting for a Middle Eastern investment company in an international arbitration concerning its investment in a development project in Europe.
- Advising a Middle Eastern government entity on force majeure and contractual issues arising from a major airport concession, including dispute avoidance, contractual amendments and settlement agreements.
- Advising a North African State and its State-owned water authority in an ICC arbitration brought by a South Korean company concerning a large-scale water infrastructure project.
- Acting for a major energy company in defending a portfolio of claims relating to alleged secret commissions and breach of fiduciary duty.
- Advising on projects involving fire safety and/or cladding issues, including litigation in the Technology and Construction Court and the First-tier Tribunal.
- Advising on the negotiation of a suite of project and construction contracts for a UK plastic recycling facility.
- Advising a global food and beverage company on multi-jurisdictional regulatory issues arising from its sponsorship of major international sporting events.
- Advising on the drafting of legislative instruments concerning public-private partnerships, secured transactions and the establishment of corporate entities by foreign investors in a North African jurisdiction.
