Alex is a Partner in the Insurance, Financial and Professional Disputes team in our London office.

Alex acts on behalf of London Market and composite insurers who underwrite both D&O and professional indemnity products for financial institutions, companies, estate agents, surveyors, insurance brokers and other professionals. He advises on coverage and defence matters both in respect of direct insurance and reinsurance policies and their substantive matters and operates as monitoring counsel in respect of overseas claims.

On D&O matters Alex acts for a wide variety of SMEs, Charities and private and listed companies across a diverse claims environment and set of circumstances. He is very experienced in advising on and defending claims arising from breaches of directors’ duties, regulatory investigations leading to personal prosecution of directors, director disqualification and insolvency issues.

On professional negligence claims, Alex acts for one of the leading national estate agent and valuers firms and their insurers and also has a well-developed niche for a wide variety of Broker’s E&O matters (both Lloyds and non-Lloyds), the latter ranging from dealing with a variety of domestic retail broker disputes (including those involving binders) to complex Lloyds broker placements often with a heavy US focus.

Experience
  • Coverage counsel on a claim for indemnity made by the subsidiary of a large offshore Corporation and operator of casino resorts and its directors under a D&O policy following USD1 billion litigation in Macau.
  • Acting as coverage counsel on a large multi-million pound domestic D&O claim involving a FTSE 250 Company and regulatory investigation into the collapse of the company amidst allegations of financial malpractice and deceit.
  • Acting for national firm of surveyors and valuers and their insurers in relation to advice provided on a £60m development and sale of agricultural land which was subject to an Option and Promotion Agreement.
  • Coverage counsel by insurers for a South African pension adviser involving issues of Enhanced Transfer Value business activities and s.166 FSMA investigation.
  • Defending claim against a Lloyds broker surrounding the placement of a multi-million Euro Fund Policy for a European Bank
  • Defending claims against Lloyds brokers for COVID associated losses suffered by a number of high profile music artists, promoters and music festivals both domestically and abroad.
