Kai Yong’s practice covers a broad range of corporate and regulatory matters with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and energy projects.

Kai Yong has extensive transactional and cross-border experience and regularly assists clients on structuring, negotiating and documenting complex corporate and commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity and corporate reorganizations across the Asia Pacific and South Asian jurisdictions. In addition, he has also advised on structuring deals and cross-border financing arrangements in the infrastructure and international trade and commodity sectors.

His clients include locally and regionally listed corporations, government-affiliated investment funds, private and state-owned commodities trading houses, and various other SMEs and multinational corporations. His work involves dealing closely with clients to meet their commercial needs and providing a range of general corporate advice and liaising with regulatory authorities.

As part of his general corporate practice, Kai Yong has also advised on various industry specific regulatory compliance issues, business licence requirements and applications, as well as corporate secretarial and employment matters.

Investment by Mitsubishi - Advising Mitsubishi Corporation on its investment into dry bulk pool operator, TBS Ocean Logistics, and co-ordination of the multi-jurisdictional due diligence exercise

Establishment of Singapore Joint Venture - Advising a Chinese State-owned entity in relation to the establishment of a Singapore joint venture to undertake an international oil trading business

Liberalisation of Electricity Sector - Advising a regional national regulator and power distributor on the restructuring and liberalisation of the domestic electricity market

Sale of Coal and Freight Assets - Advising one of the largest wholesale market traders in Europe for power and gas, on the sale of the Singapore arm of its coal and freight business

LNG Investment in Singapore - Advising on a Singapore joint venture to hold and own various LNG infrastructure assets in India, including an existing LNG terminal and a new-build Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU)
