Anna Burgess is an Associate within the Safety, Health and Environment Regulatory team based in our Manchester office.
Her practice is focused on representing businesses and individuals subject to criminal investigations by regulators including the Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, and the Care Quality Commission, as well as representing clients at Coroner’s Inquests.
Anna Burgess qualified in October 2024 and joined Clyde & Co's Safety, Health and Environment Regulatory team.
From that time, Anna has been involved in supporting both companies and individuals in criminal prosecutions subject to regulator investigations, including Corporate Manslaughter, Gross Negligence Manslaughter, Environmental, Health and safety, Inquests and Road Traffic matters.
Much of Anna's work focuses on advising clients from the investigation stage after incidents occur, through to the prosecution stage, and in some cases trial matters.
Experience
Involved in supporting a global company to improve its health and safety policies and helped co-ordinate risk assessments;
Representation of a local engineering company at an Inquest following a fatal incident;
Supporting counsel in trial preparation matters of an individual facing prosecution for waste activity;
Supported an individual in obtaining 'No Further Action' by the police following a road traffic incident;
Representation of a sole trader at a lengthy inquest hearing with instructed counsel, which found that the sole trader's work or products used were not causative to the fatal incident; and
Supporting a global company in a local authority investigation relating to health and safety.
