Kira Barrett focuses her practice in the areas of commercial litigation, construction, insurance, product & general liability, environmental/toxic tort, and professional liability defense.

Kira maintains a diverse litigation practice, offering comprehensive experience representing businesses and individuals in a variety of tort and contract related claims. She also represents professionals such as lawyers, architects, engineers, insurance professionals, accountants, and CPAs in professional negligence and related actions. 

Kira also handles cases involving directors and officers, defending against alleged breaches of fiduciary duties and related claims. Her experience also includes the representation of residential and commercial contractors in construction litigation, as well as defending contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers in product defect and toxic tort litigation. Additionally, she represents corporations in commercial litigation.

Experience
  • Obtained a favorable ruling on a motion for summary judgment in favor of an expert witness against an attorney who had previously deposed the expert in another matter, but failed to pay the deposition fees.
  • Obtained a voluntary dismissal on the eve of the motion for summary judgment deadline of manufacturing defendant in a case where plaintiff alleged he was exposed to asbestos resulting mesothelioma through exposure to the client’s products.
  • Obtained dismissal on summary judgment of a veterinarian in a case where plaintiff alleged negligence.
  • Obtained a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in Federal Court on behalf of a publicly traded company against former CEO to enjoin the former CEO and others acting in concert with him from utilizing client’s trade secrets, customer lists, and other proprietary information.
  • Obtained a temporary restraining order in Federal Court on behalf of a national tax preparation company against former employee enjoining him from utilizing proprietary information of the tax preparation company.
  • Obtained complete dismissal on motion to dismiss of an attorney sued in her capacity as guardian ad litem in Federal Court for claims of malicious prosecution and violations of constitutional rights.
  • Obtained complete dismissal on motion to dismiss in Federal Court on behalf of a case worker in connection with removal of children from plaintiff by the department of child services for claims of violation of constitutional rights, judicial deception, conspiracy, negligence, and gross negligence.
  • Succeeded in having two out of three causes of action dismissed by motion to dismiss for a lawyer who was sued for malicious prosecution, abuse of process, and professional negligence by an opposing party in a legal malpractice action that preceded the case at issue.
