Manoj Belani

Manoj is a Senior Associate based in the Singapore office. 

He has extensive experience in dispute resolution, including litigation, international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution across a range of commercial disputes. 

He rose through the ranks to Associate Director at a Big Four law firm in Singapore specialising in multi-jurisdictional and domestic commercial disputes, in the spaces of insurance, corporate, investment, construction and technology. Throughout, he has been active in trial and appellate matters before all levels of the Singapore courts, international arbitration proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution, gaining deep familiarity with the various forums. 

His practice is in commercial dispute resolution, insurance and regulatory matters, with a focus on the aviation sector. He is part of the APAC Aviation team. He often acts for entities within the aviation ecosystem, such as (re)insurance companies, airlines and aviation service providers, among others. He also co-authored the Singapore chapter of Lexology’s Panoramic Aviation Liability guide in 2026.

Manoj has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Bristol (2015) and is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore (2017). He brings the ability to act as advocate before the Singapore courts holding a practicing certificate, as well as in institutional or ad hoc international arbitration.  

He is Co-Vice Chairperson of the Law Society of Singapore’s Professional Indemnity Committee advising on the scheme for mandatory professional indemnity insurance for lawyers.

Aviation liability

• Acted for reinsurers and a Turkish cargo carrier in a major loss incident in Hong Kong  
• Acted for reinsurers and an established Korean carrier in claims arising from a high-profile ground collision in Japan
• Acted for reinsurers and an American charted flight operator over a liability incident in Nepal   
• Acted for reinsurers and a PRC carrier over liability and subrogated recovery matters relating to a ground handling incident in Canada
• Acted for reinsurers and a ground handler over several liability incidents in Malaysia
• Acted for reinsurers and a national flag Gulf carrier in defending a liability claim in Singapore arising from a severe turbulence incident
• Acted for a Korean MRO service provider in defending a liability claim by a Japanese carrier relating to maintenance services provided
• Advised a prominent MRO service provider in Hong Kong over a liability incident concerning a South Asian national flag carrier

International arbitration

• Advised a PRC logistics equipment manufacturer on an SIAC arbitration and negotiations, following a dispute with a German technology MNC for airport logistics equipment
• Advised a large PRC carrier in respect of a multi-party ICC arbitration  
• Acted in an SIAC arbitration over a dispute between joint venture business partners of an established F&B business in the Philippines
• Acted in an SIAC arbitration to defend the subsidiaries of an established American manufacturer and supplier of chemicals
• Acted in an SIAC arbitration for a multinational IT company against its subcontractor over the development of a complex payments software system
• Acted for a Cambodian businessman and his real estate companies in 6 separate SIAC arbitration proceedings involving claims under a facility agreement, share pledges and guarantees
• Acted as Tribunal Secretary in an arbitration under the ARIAS Rules (A.I.D.A Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society of the UK) in respect of a claim against an established international insurer for coverage issues under a Public Offering of Securities Insurance Policy

Commercial litigation before the Singapore Courts

• Acted for a North American aircraft management and brokerage firm in defending claims before the Singapore High Court, with satellite arbitration before the SIAC over the termination of an aircraft management contract
• Acted for a leading shipbuilder in a contentious Singapore High Court suit to defend a claim by a HVAC sub-contractor relating to building works on a deepwater pipe laying vessel
• Acted in an appeal to the Singapore Court of Appeal on behalf of a leading Singapore based Financial Adviser firm concerning issues of professional negligence (see IPP Financial Advisers Pte Ltd v Saimee bin Jumaat and another appeal [2020] SGCA 47)
• Acted for an international dye manufacturer before the Singapore International Commercial Court (both High Court and appeal before the Court of Appeal) in an application for the enforcement of a share buyout order (see: Kiri Industries Ltd v Senda International Capital Ltd and another [2024] SGHC(I) 14 and Kiri Industries Ltd v Senda International Capital Ltd and another and another appeal [2025] SGCA(I) 1)
• Acted for an Indonesian property investor in a Singapore High Court suit in respect of claims for fraudulent misrepresentation relating to a property investment in Niseko, Japan (see Astrawati Aluwi v Lo Yew Seng and another (Infinity Capital Group Ltd and others, third parties) [2025] SGHC 188)
• Acted in an appeal before the Appellate Division of the High Court over a trusts dispute involving gold bars (see: Soemarto Sulistio v Stukan Yetty Fang and others [2021] SGHC(A) 5)
• Acted in a Singapore High Court suit to defend a branded watch distributor with operations in Vietnam and Singapore over claims for unlawful interference with trade and unpaid invoices
• Acted for insurers and insured under a Contractors’ All Risks Policy to defend a Singapore High Court claim by property owners against a developer and contractor for severe property damage
• Acted for insurers and insured under a Public Liability Policy to defend a Singapore High Court relating to an arc flash incident at an electrical substation   
• Advised an established Korean construction projects MNC on a dispute with its local joint venture partners over the construction and development of a hospital in Singapore
• Advised on and/or acted in various debt and judgment enforcement measures in the Singapore courts in various commercial matters involving statutory demands, bankruptcy, winding-up, writ of seizure and sale of property and shares, garnishee proceedings, injunctive relief, and examination of judgment debtors
