James Castillo is an experienced associate with a broad litigation and advisory practice. He focuses on insurance law, including professional and financial disputes, professional negligence, product liability, construction law, and general commercial litigation. In addition, James advises clients on defamation and employment law, as well as bankruptcy and insolvency, and the enforcement of security interests, including judgment recovery. He also provides strategic guidance on privacy and cybersecurity matters, assisting businesses in mitigating risk and navigating complex multi-jurisdictional challenges related to fund recovery worldwide.

James has represented clients before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta. Prior to joining Clyde & Co., he practiced at a large regional firm, where he handled matters in defamation, employment, bankruptcy and insolvency, enforcement of security, insurance law, and commercial litigation. He also gained valuable experience at the Alberta Securities Commission, working on securities breaches and litigation.

Known for his pragmatic and client-focused approach, James is dedicated to advancing and protecting his clients’ interests through practical, results-oriented strategies.

Outside of his legal practice, James enjoys cooking and traveling. He is also an avid boxer and kickboxer.
