Richard has represented companies and individuals at Inquests, public and other inquires and criminal and regulatory prosecutions.
Notably, Richard has acted in many of the leading reported corporate manslaughter and Gross negligence manslaughter cases and causing death by Dangerous/Careless Driving and has acted for a wide variety of companies in relation to high profile corporate and gross negligence manslaughter and health and safety investigations.
Richard has a background in Rail and has acted for Rail companies in Inquiries, Inquests and Prosecutions arising out of numerous rail incidents including the rail crashes at Southall, Ladbroke Grove, Hatfield, Potters Bar and Grayrigg.and has also acted for the Emergency Services in manslaughter and causing death cases.
Experience
- Representing the Tenant Management Organisation and its senior managers responsible for the management of Grenfell Tower in relation to police investigations and Public Inquiry.
- Successfully defending Gross Negligence Manslaughter prosecutions brought against Director and Project Manager of Engineering construction company following a fall from height during Eastbourne Pier renovation.
- Defending Rail Infrastructure company in several rail incidents including in regulatory investigations and a prosecution following a significant flashover at their electrical distribution substation at Godinton, Kent supplying electricity to the live rail system and prosecution brought by the Office of Road and Rail for failure to comply with enforcement notices relevant to the nationwide arrangements for earthing some 10,000 650V lineside electrical cabinets.
- Successfully defending Fire and Rescue Service Incident Commander on 4 charges of Gross Negligence Manslaughter.
- Successfully defending Fire and Rescue Emergency drivers on separate incidents in which they were prosecuted for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving during emergency call outs
- Defending pub landlord on Gross Negligence Manslaughter charges following electrocution of Child at Pub premises.
- Representing demolition site foreman in Gross Negligence Manslaughter investigations following double fatality at demolition site
- Representing companies and managers in Manslaughter and Health and Safety Investigations following 2 separate incident of trench collapse
