Mike Dobson is a partner in our Casualty team and is based in our Birmingham office.
Mike’s expertise lies in Catastrophic Injury and Large Loss, handling a caseload of personal injury claims involving claims of the utmost severity including severe traumatic brain injury, severe spinal cord injury including tetraplegia, amputations, polytrauma, fatal accidents and complex presentations such as functional neurological disorder. Claims that are often valued in excess of £10 million and involve provisional damages and periodical payment orders.
Mike also specialises in cross-jurisdiction cases advising foreign insurers on accidents and injuries arising outside of the UK involving English claimants and advises on issues of jurisdiction and applicable law.
Mike co-leads our Catastrophic Injury and Large Loss Pillar responsible for the operational and technical excellence of the group that numbers in excess of 250 lawyers handling large and complex claims.
Mike is a client relationship partner, advising and shaping our clients’ strategic approach to claims, across subjects such as the Personal Injury Discount Rate, Claims inflation, risk management and defensibility.
Mike is ranked in the Hall of Fame for West Midlands – Personal Injury: Mainly Defendant by Legal 500.

- Child traumatic brain injury claim arising out of an injury in the womb causing severe uncontrolled epilepsy valued in excess of £20m.
- Advising insurers on capitalisation of a PPO award.
- Advising foreign insurer on a jurisdiction challenge involving a claimant who suffered a traumatic brain injury abroad.
- Representing a multi-national company following a workplace fatality.
- Acting on a construction site claim involving a severe paraplegic injury, a claim valued up to £10m.
