Angus Gillies is a Senior Associate solicitor in the Catastrophic and Large Loss team based in our Glasgow office. Angus represents his clients in the Court of Session and Sheriff Court. His case load includes fatal claims, employer's liability (including off-shore accidents with multi-jurisdictional legal issues), occupier’s liability, complex catastrophic injury claims, sports law, property damage litigation and fraud. Angus is also a part of the Clyde & Co cyber team providing advice and representation to his clients on all aspects of cyber and data protection law.

Angus has worked as a solicitor in insurer defence litigation for over 15 years, bringing wealth of experience and expertise to his practice. Prior to commencing his traineeship as a solicitor, Angus worked for a large insurance company as a claims handler. 

Experience

Recent work highlights include: 

  • Recently appeared on behalf of a large national bus company at a 3 day Diet of Proof ( civil trial) at court in relation to an employer’s liability claim involving suspected fraud, achieving a full successful defence for his client. 
  • Representing and advising clients in relation to data protection disputes, cyber breaches and claims involving high profile and sensitive data and media coverage. 
  • Principal solicitor in a number of high-profile fatal road traffic accidents. 
  • Appearing at court to secure a Qualified One Way Costs Shifting decision in favour of his clients.  
  • Working on a highly complex offshore accident involving significant damages as well as a host of contractual, indemnity and Norwegian law issues.
  • Principal solicitor in a number of complex catastrophic personal injury claims involving interesting issues around future losses, medical negligence, causation  and evidential issues. 
  • Principal solicitor representing a Scottish Premier League football team on a complex personal injury claim. 
  • Presenting at the Clyde & Co annual liability conference on the legal regulation of artificial intelligence.
  • Recently published article in the Scotsman newspaper discussing cyber developments. 
  • Recently completed a week placement working in Clyde & Co’s New York office in Manhattan as part of the firm's Global Associate's Programme.
