Hickley was appointed as a Senior Associate in the Johannesburg office in February 2020. Since his admission as an attorney in 2014, his practice has been focused primarily on dispute resolution, ethical advisory and general legal advisory in the private healthcare sector.
His experience in civil litigation includes matters in the lower courts, the High Court, and in the Supreme Court of Appeal. He has managed a number of matters before regulatory boards, and has experience in criminal matters flowing from professional services. Beyond litigation in the court system, Hickley has experience in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including mediation and arbitration.
Hickley also has experience in the corporate and commercial field, including contractual drafting and negotiation, advice on corporate governance and general legal issues, and dispute resolution. In these respects he has worked with clients within the healthcare sector (including private hospitals and clinics), in the logistics industry and public sector.

Managing claims relating to medical negligence, including litigious and non-litigious matters
Managing the conduct of matters before the Health Professions Council of South Africa, including the defence of disciplinary proceedings.
Providing general legal and ethical advice to healthcare practitioners and corporate entities
Assisting a private hospital in negotiating and drafting various contracts, including a complex partnership with an academic institution and large scale reviews of service level agreements
The negotiation and drafting of service level agreements on behalf of a public sector entity with a sensitive political and historical context
