Alexander Marks is a Legal Director based in London representing global insurers and manufacturers, advising on a broad range of product liability, property and coverage disputes, as well as recovery and contribution claims against third parties.

Alexander specialises in Product Liability defence claims, representing international manufacturers, distributors and retailers and their respective insurers in a wide array of claims arising from consumer products, medical devices, aviation, automotive, engineering and construction disputes. Alexander also advises on Policy interpretation and applicable law in cross border disputes.

Alexander has a comprehensive understanding of the competing motivations in the litigation process, given he has previously also acted on behalf of claimants, which he draws on when assessing claims and liability generally. Alexander also holds Dip CII speciality in claims, in the areas of liability insurances, business interruption and advanced claims strategy. Alexander is fully aware of the relevant internal procedures and processes for insurer clients when dealing with claims management, including the requirement for accurate reserving. Alexander strives to offer his insurer clients practical and commercial advice, seeking to limit their potential exposure by proposing bespoke strategies for resolution of claims, adapted to each particular set of circumstances.

  • Advising a supplier of children’s toy products in respect of claims involving safety errors.
  • Acting for excess insurers in respect of a coverage dispute regarding the late notification of a substantial claim due to defective construction materials.
  • Advising primary insurers of a project policy in respect of multiple claims relating to the construction of a landmark high rise building in London.
  • Acting for an international manufacturer in respect of claims relating to portfolio of medical products and associated losses.
  • Acting for insurers in defending a claim for defective aviation component and subsequent cross border recovery.
