Kai Yong has more than a decade of transactional and cross-border experience with regional mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, joint venture, corporate reorganisation, general corporate, and projects work. His expertise spans multiple sectors, including energy and natural resources, traditional and digital infrastructure, projects and constructions, marine, trade and commodities, logistics, healthcare, and technology.

Kai Yong's clientele is diverse, comprising locally and regionally listed corporations, government-affiliated investment funds, private and state-owned commodities trading houses, and various SMEs and multinational corporations. He is particularly renowned for his frequent collaborations with top-tier Chinese SOEs, Japanese trading houses, and major international private enterprises.

Kai Yong's ability to manage multifaceted negotiations and his deep understanding of market dynamics have earned him a reputation as a trusted advisor in the M&A field.   • Acting as transaction counsel to Linfox Holdings (Thailand) Ltd., the Thailand subsidiary of Australia-headquartered logistics company Linfox Pty, on the 100% acquisition of Singapore-based logistic company, Masindo Logistic Pte. Ltd., with interest in a JTC lease.
  • Advising a Chinese state owned enterprise on the establishment of its Singapore joint venture with Singapore’s GIC to act as a cold storage logistics asset platform.
  • Advising a Chinese state owned enterprise on the divestment of its Shanghai cold storage logistics asset to its Singapore joint venture established with Singapore’s GIC.
  • Advising a Taiwanese State-owned company on its investment into a Singapore-based logistics business.
  • Advising Marubeni Corporation on the acquisition from Torvald Klaveness Group, a major Norwegian shipping company, of a stake in Klaveness Dry Bulk AS, Klaveness' core Panamax-type bulk carrier operating business.
  • Advising a Chinese State-Owned heavy machinery enterprise in the acquisition of shareholdings in a Singapore and Malaysian entity engaged in the machinery service business.
  • Acting as transaction counsel to Virtuos Holdings Pte. Ltd. on the 100% acquisition of Dutch based video game developer, Abstraction Games.
  • Acting as transaction counsel to Virtuos Holdings Pte. Ltd. on the 100% acquisition of the UK based video game developer, Third Kind Games.
  • Advising Mitsubishi Corporation on its investment into dry bulk pool operator, TBS Ocean Logistics, and co-ordination of the multi-jurisdictional due diligence exercise.
  • Advising one of the largest wholesale market traders in Europe for power and gas, on the sale of the Singapore arm of its coal and freight business.
  • Advising a global oil energy and commodities trader in relation to its acquisition of a 50% stake in a New Zealand oil distributor as part of its supply chain integration.
  • Advising a global energy and commodities trader in relation to the sale of 18 petrol stations in Indonesia to a European energy trading company.
  • Advising a Chinese SOE on the proposed acquisition of a Singapore holding company owning two solar power projects in Vietnam, including but not limited to conducting legal due diligence in Singapore.
  • Advising Sinochem on establishing a joint venture company with a Singapore based company, Hengli Petrochemical International Pte. Ltd. to conduct international oil trading business.
  • Advising a Chinese company on the acquisition of a significant stake in a Singapore e-ticketing online platform, including the co-ordination of the multi-jurisdictional due diligence exercise and drafting and negotiating the transactional documents.
  • Advising a world-leading FinTech company’s Singapore entity in respect of its 100% acquisition of a US based holding company of a crypto exchange network with operations in Latin American, including in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay etc.  Our work included co-ordinating the legal due diligence across the US and multiple Latin American jurisdictions, advising on the structuring of the transaction, and drafting and negotiating the transactional documents.
