Michael is senior counsel at our Vancouver office with a practice in construction and commercial litigation, as well as construction solicitor work.
Michael Williams is Senior Counsel and focuses on construction and commercial disputes and has acted as counsel in all levels of British Columbia courts, as well as in administrative proceedings, arbitrations and mediations.
He provides legal counsel to contractors, developers, consultants and property owners on a wide range of issues and on projects small and large. Maintaining an insurance practice where he acts for both insurers and insureds in construction, professional negligence and business disputes, Michael is regularly involved in delay claims, deficiency claims and builders liens, and in a host of contractual issues that often arise in the construction context. In addition, he advises employers on Workers Compensation Act investigations, proceedings and appeals, and provides solicitor services, including contract drafting, bids/tenders and mid-project strategies.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Michael gained a considerable amount of experience in the construction industry, working for both contractors and sub-trades, as well as for a leading innovator of construction technologies.
While attending law school, he acted as the Vice President of the Law Students’ Society and acquired substantial solicitor experience as a member of the Business Law Clinic group that offers legal information to small businesses and non-profits on matters such as incorporation, financing, charitable registration and more. In his third year, Michael was awarded the Murray Fraser Award for his outstanding contribution to life at the law school.
