With data privacy issues at the forefront of global legal developments, Bahrain has now introduced a new data protection law which is due to take effect on 1 August 2019.
The law is in line with the international trend to recognise and protect individuals' rights to know about and control the use of their personal data. This is an area of law that has historically been less developed in the Middle East, but which is evolving rapidly. The new Bahrain Personal Data Protection Law contains obligations on data processors inside and outside the Kingdom and will therefore need careful consideration by businesses that are connected to Bahrain in any way.
