Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce that Helen Bourne and Damian McPhun have joined the firm as partners.

The new partners joined BLG, with members of their teams, from Halliwells’ London office on Monday 19 July.

Helen, who formerly headed Halliwells’ dispute resolution group in London, specialises in insurance and general commercial litigation, with a particular focus on financial lines and product liability. She was previously a surety underwriter at major insurer AIG (now Chartis).

Damian has been an insurance litigator for his whole career, and brings with him a wealth of experience in property claims, professional indemnity and directors’ and officers’ liability, working with some of the biggest insurers in the market.

Simon Konsta, BLG’s senior partner, said: “These new partners are a great addition to our insurance and general commercial litigation practices and will help extend the breadth and depth of our offering to clients.

“We are an ambitious firm, actively looking to grow our business. Helen and Damian will help us continue to service every level of the insurance industry and deliver excellence in all forms of dispute resolution. We are delighted to welcome them all to BLG.”

Helen said: “This is undoubtedly an exciting time for BLG, and I’m looking forward to getting started. BLG has an excellent reputation for dispute resolution across the board, and its record in the insurance sector is second-to-none.”

Damian said: “BLG is one of the leading insurance law firms, and is top of the rankings for professional negligence work. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to develop my own practice and help BLG to strengthen its position in its core markets.”
