Joining from Norton Rose Fulbright, Jacques specialises in advising local and overseas insurers on complex disputes and coverage issues, and focuses on financial lines insurance with a particular focus on directors & officers (D&O), professional indemnity and management liability claims.
He also has expertise in emerging areas such as cyber coverage and breach response, having acted in more than 130 different cyber breaches, some of which were very large breaches in the Australian market and globally, as well as W&I claims – which provides cover to a seller or buyer for financial loss or liability arising from a breach of contractual warranties or indemnities in an M&A transaction. Jacques has advised on numerous and often complex and novel issues in relation to W&I, as well as on subrograted recoveries involving these claims.
Commenting on the hire, Lucinda Lyons, partner and Head of Insurance in Australia, says, "By joining the firm, Jacques will add bench strength and depth of expertise as part of our comprehensive offering to clients in the financial lines and D&O space as they continue to face an increasingly regulated environment. His W&I expertise will be crucial as we help clients move forward from the COVID-19 pandemic and we anticipate demand for this type of insurance will increase over the coming 12 months to coincide with a resurgence in IPOs and M&A."
Jacques becomes the fourth arrival this year in Australia, following partners Damian Watkin, Patrick Boardman and Alec Christie. It also follows the hiring in Australia last year of four other insurance partners from Norton Rose Fulbright – Nicole Wearne, Ganga Narayanan, Mark Attard and Jehan-Philippe Wood.
