Cladding and Building Safety
Fires in high rise buildings, fuelled by combustible cladding have become a global phenomenon
On this site Clyde & Co have created a ‘one stop global shop’ for clients and construction industry stakeholders providing information about cladding and building safety reforms and civil litigation from around the world.
Over the last 15 years we have seen the Wooshin Golden Suits fire in Busan South Korea in 2010, the Tamweel Tower fire in Dubai in 2012, the Lacrosse building fire in Melbourne, Australia in 2014 and of course, the catastrophic Grenfell Tower fire in London UK in 2017 (to name a few). These buildings were all clad with combustible cladding including metal composite panels with a polyethylene core and in some cases, expandable polystyrene insulation (EPS).
The fires and the fatalities they caused (or almost caused) prompted regulatory reforms and civil litigation that has impacted developers, contractors, insurers and building owners worldwide.
On this site Clyde & Co have created a ‘one stop global shop’ for clients and construction industry stakeholders providing information about cladding and building safety reforms and civil litigation from around the world. Here you will find:
- Reports about building safety/cladding related regulatory reforms in different regions of the world;
- Reports on the outcomes of civil litigation relating to building safety and combustible cladding from different jurisdictions;
- Insights and analysis on the impact these reforms (and proposed reforms)/judgments are expected to have on clients and construction industry stakeholders.
We invite you explore this site and the links to developments in different regions and jurisdictions. We hope you find it interesting and insightful and we welcome any feedback you have regarding further content.
