Da-Shon Akelan Dixon represents domestic and international insurers throughout the United States in third-party matters, with a focus on professional liability coverage counseling and litigation. His practice centers on helping insurers assess exposure at the earliest stages, make informed coverage determinations, and position claims in a manner that aligns legal analysis with business and risk-management objectives.
On behalf of insurers, Da-Shon regularly litigates declaratory judgment actions, policy rescission matters, breach of contract claims, and lawsuits involving allegations of bad faith and extra-contractual damages. He also handles reimbursement and recoupment matters, allocation and priority disputes between carriers, and is periodically retained as insurance defense counsel where coordination between coverage positions and liability strategy is critical.
In addition to coverage litigation, Da-Shon works closely with in-house coverage counsel, claims professionals, and underwriting teams on day-to-day claims handling as well as significant and complex matters. He provides clear, practical coverage analyses that support informed decision making, preserve critical defenses, and are designed to withstand internal, regulatory, and litigation scrutiny. His experience includes advising on conflicts of interest and independent counsel issues, coordinating coverage strategies for complex, multi-insured claims—including cyber incidents—and serving as monitoring counsel with an emphasis on efficiency, cost containment, and alignment with insurer objectives. Relatedly, Da-Shon regularly evaluates insurer-retained defense counsel invoices for compliance with carrier litigation management guidelines and customary billing practices. He also advises underwriters on policy wording and coverage structure, drawing on claims experience and engagement with emerging risks to help insurers strengthen coverage positions and reduce downstream exposure.
Before joining Clyde & Co, Da-Shon represented domestic and international insurers in coverage counseling and litigation involving professional liability and other specialized financial lines, including D&O, cyber, and management liability.
