Mati leads the Corporate & Commercial Department at Kangwana in association with Clyde & Co. Mati is dedicated to providing support and offering legal solutions that are well suited to client’s business needs which is compounded by his developed legal, business, and regulatory network across East Africa and the wider region.  

Mati has experience advising across a full spectrum of commercial transactions ranging from mergers and acquisitions, commercial agreements to more complex project financing transactions.

Mati has advised on transactions across sub-Saharan Africa including in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea and the Democratic Republic of Congo to name but a few. 

Experience
  • Corporate and Commercial – advising an FMCG manufacturer with USD 329 million in revenue on various commercial agreements.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions – advising shareholders of the Monarch Insurance Company on an USD 8 million disposal of a majority equity stake to a Moroccan conglomerate and pan African underwriter, Holmarcom.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions – advising the acquirer of a USD 20 million, 100% stake of a life sciences company in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
  • Regulatory – advising numerous international clients on various regulatory considerations including digital lending, banking, data protection, insurance and healthcare.
  • Banking & Finance - advising on a USD 400M re-financing of a logistics firm with operations in 4 East African jurisdictions.
  • Banking & Finance - advising on a USD 150M financing and construction of a private hospital in Kenya.
