Global law firm Clyde & Co has today announced a new partnership with Hartford InsurTech Hub, an initiative that connects the insurance industry and insurtech innovators and start-ups.
In its latest insurtech collaboration, Clyde & Co will act as Hartford InsurTech Hub’s exclusive legal partner, providing startups in the program – which is backed by global network of industry-focused accelerator programs Startupbootcamp – with high level advice and support to help them develop their products and services. This may include regulatory help or advice on legal obligations they may encounter as they innovate.
Vikram Sidhu, Partner at Clyde & Co, says: “We are delighted to be working with Hartford InsurTech Hub, and hope to provide guidance to the startups on their most pressing legal challenges and be part of the development of their businesses. By providing legal mentoring, clinics and resources on insurance regulation and corporate matters, we aim to help the startups navigate the world of insurance laws and regulations as they launch their dreams.”
Erika Bothma, Program Director, Hartford InsurTech Hub adds: “We’re thrilled to have the Clyde & Co team on board for the program, and I look forward to connecting them with our startups, so the startups can take full advantage of the legal insight they have to offer.”
Ten companies have been selected to take part in the hub and work across a range of technologies and insurance disciplines including, artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics and natural language processing, cyber security, smart home, and health insurance.
Clyde & Co will advise the startups on the sector-specific issues they face and provide them direction on how to do business in the highly regulated insurance industry.
This partnership is part of Clyde & Co's focus on technology and innovation, led by the firm's Innovation Board. In September 2017 the firm launched Clyde Code, an innovative new consultancy to advise insurers on all aspects of the burgeoning new area of smart contracts, blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. In 2017, lawyers from the firm provided legal workshops to start-ups in Startupbootcamp InsurTech London's 2017 cohort, and in November 2017, the firm partnered with insurtech initiative Insurlab Germany.
Hartford InsurTech Hub was established in 2017 to focus on addressing the need for attracting new technologies and talent in insurance and technology into the City of Hartford, Connecticut, and the local ecosystem.
