Clyde & Co announced today two significant recruits to grow its US insurance practice. Peter Whalen and Edward (Ned) Kirk will join Clyde’s offices in San Francisco and New York respectively.
James Burns, board member with a particular focus on the US comments: “Our insurance practice is going from strength to strength across the firm. Our American offices have contributed well above expectations since their opening a few years ago, and the fact that we continue to attract partners of this calibre is a testament to the way the practice is developing.
“Being able to offer a depth of expertise in key sectors, combined with scale and international reach is clearly a powerful proposition in the marketplace. Both Pete and Ned are hugely impressive lawyers and they bring with them a tremendous practice that will both add to and complement our existing US offering.”
Peter Whalen’s practice has a particular emphasis in coverage litigation involving umbrella and excess policies, continuous loss circumstances, catastrophic losses, multiple parties and insurers, indemnity provisions, additional insured claims and other matters. He is involved in coverage litigation actions across a number of US states, and has acted for US insurance clients as well as London market insurers.
Previously, Peter was co–chair of Duane Morris LLP’s Insurance and Reinsurance practice.
Ned Kirk specialises in financial institutions coverage, including defence of insurers in coverage and bad faith litigation and investigations of complex claims under D&O, professional indemnity, fiduciary liability and fidelity policies. His client base includes a number of domestic US and international insurers and reinsurers. In addition, Ned has also acted in relation to a number of fraud related losses in financial institutions and recovery actions.
Ned joins from Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP where he was a partner.
Clyde & Co now has 17 partners and 55 lawyers across 3 offices in the United States. The practice has grown with 5 partners joining or promoted so far since January 2010, with further expansion planned.
