Our Being a Regional MEA Employer series addresses the employment framework, legislative changes and challenges impacting employers and employees across a variety of jurisdictions. Our sixth episode focuses on Lebanon.

Lebanon has been facing economic, financial, and political challenges which has had a direct impact on those working and living in the country. The unemployment rate in 2022 was at 29 per cent, with the situation worsening as employers terminated employee contracts due to the depreciation of the Lebanese pound. To stabilise the economy, international investment is being encouraged in many sectors, including the consultancy, healthcare, and technology sectors.

In this episode, senior associate Amy Guest invites associate Elodie Chalhoub to discuss the employment space in Lebanon and seek to answer the following questions:

  1. Has there been any changes to the employment legislation to address the current challenges in Lebanon?
  2. What are the key things an employer needs to know about operating in Lebanon?
  3. How easy is it to terminate employees in Lebanon?
  4. Where are you seeing opportunities for business and activity taking place?
  5. Is the employment framework employer friendly or employee friendly?
  6. What’s on the horizon in the coming months?

During this episode, employers and businesses will gain an understanding of the employment framework and a market update in Lebanon.

Our employment specialists assist employers with the full range of issues which arise in the workplace on a day-to-day basis. If you have any questions regarding the employment framework in Lebanon, please contact Sara Khoja or Elodie Chalhoub
