In this episode of Legal Insights, Sherif Maher and Abdelmajid Alsalous continue the discussion with Ms. Ishraga Abutaha on the role of court-appointed experts in the UAE onshore courts.

This second part of the three-part mini-series explores the extent to which party-appointed consultant reports are considered by court-appointed experts and whether such reports carry weight in the expert’s assessment. Also up for discussion is whether a consulting expert may serve simultaneously as a court-appointed expert in the same matter, and the team examine the expert’s methodology and whether court-appointed experts may request the court to appoint additional specialists to assist in finalising an expert report. 

The episode comes to a close as the team consider whether experts are expected to undertake legal research - not for the purposes of litigation, but as part of maintaining and developing their professional expertise and practice.
