The Health and Safety Executive is considering the most substantial changes to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences regime, known as RIDDOR, in more than a decade.
The proposals, which would impact England, Wales and Scotland, could bring a much wider range of workplace incidents and occupational diseases within the scope of RIDDOR.
The changes would also allow registered nurses and physiotherapists, alongside doctors, to diagnose reportable occupational diseases, reflecting the wider range of professionals involved in occupational health.
Writing for The Scotsman, Kimberley Mitchell considers what the proposed reforms could mean for employers, particularly in sectors such as construction, agriculture and manufacturing, and why organisations should seek early legal advice where a reportable incident may lead to an investigation by the regulator.
