Sylvia joined the Clyde and Co team in 2022 after two years of practice as civil litigation lawyer at another Singapore firm. As an associate of Clyde and Co’s Marine and International Trade Team in Singapore, she acts for a variety of clients in the industry, including leading commodity trading firms, shipowners, charterers and marine insurers.

Sylvia is experienced in handling complex civil and commercial disputes matters, both in court and in arbitration proceedings. She has also assisted clients in achieving mutually beneficial settlement of their disputes, through mediation or negotiation.

She also advises on non-contentious and transactional matters within the Marine and Trade sectors.

  • Acted for a first-class bank in a dispute pertaining to monies paid under a letter of credit for the financing of commodities.
  • Acted for a leading fuel services company in a dispute relating to issues arising out of an assignment of receivables to a bank and the exercise of rights of set-off by the debtor.
  • Acted for two trade finance banks in pursuing recovery against Hin Leong Trading Pte Ltd and its associated entities in respect of the bank’s exposure under trade finance agreements.
  • Acted for a large conglomerate in Indonesia in a charterparty dispute.
  • Acted for a commodity trading company in a contractual dispute arising out of a coal sale and purchase agreement.
  • Acted for a substantial bondholder in the restructuring of a leading shipping company in Asia.
