Global law firm Clyde & Co continues to expand its Tech & Data capability in Germany with the hire of Tech & Data specialist Thorsten Ammann, who joins the firm in Düsseldorf as a partner on 18 May 2026.
He will be followed by Florian Achnitz, who will join as a senior associate on 1 June 2026. Both join from DLA Piper, where Thorsten Ammann also was co-head of the German Technology Sector Group and head of the German AI Subgroup.
Thorsten advises on complex, large-scale international IT, data and transformation projects, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence and other disruptive technologies.
His appointment represents a significant step in the continued growth of Clyde & Co’s Tech & Data practice in Germany. It reflects increasing client demand for advice on digital transformation, AI and data-driven business models, and strengthens the firm’s ability to deliver integrated cross-border solutions. With these two new hires, there will now be seven lawyers advising on IT law and data protection in Germany.
Jan Spittka, Partner for IT and Data Protection in Düsseldorf, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Thorsten Ammann to our team. His experience in strategic IT projects, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies strengthens our offering in this growing area and complements our international Technology, Outsourcing & Data practice.”
Thorsten Ammann added:
“Clyde & Co offers a strong international platform to further develop my practice in strategic IT, AI and transformation projects. I look forward to working with Jan and the wider global team to support clients on complex and cross-border matters.”
Clyde & Co’s IT and data protection team advises national and international clients on regulatory and liability matters, IT and AI compliance, outsourcing, as well as digitalisation and IT projects. Key areas include digital transformation, cyber risk management and the handling of data protection incidents and related disputes. The team has been repeatedly recognised for its work in data protection by Wirtschaftswoche and Handelsblatt / Best Lawyers.
Since opening in Germany in 2016, Clyde & Co has grown from five to nearly 60 lawyers, reflecting its continued investment in the market.
