Our UK Fraud team has received industry recognition at the Insurance Post Claims & Fraud Awards for a bespoke, adaptive AI capability that uncovered connections across more than 125 claims and helped expose an organised fraud network.

Cutting-edge AI approach earns national recognition for Fraud team

The team deployed a pioneering AI-driven investigation model that transforms how evidence is analysed, connected and presented.

The accolade recognises the market-leading expertise of our lawyers and intelligence specialists alongside a purpose-built, adaptive AI capability designed around the complex evidence involved in fraud investigations.

Background

A series of claims were submitted against a number of our clients. Although the claims initially appeared unconnected, they displayed recurring features that warranted further investigation.

Rather than reviewing each suspicious claim individually, the team created a dynamic, AI-enabled investigation model capable of analysing large volumes of financial records, claims histories and third-party material as new information emerged. The technology identified links between individuals, addresses, transactions and associated organisations across the claims.

This continuously evolving intelligence picture enabled the team to map the organised fraud network at scale, ultimately identifying 126 connected claims. Analysis that had previously required more than seven hours per case was reduced to approximately 90 minutes, allowing the team’s specialists to focus on validating the intelligence, developing the legal strategy and taking decisive action.

From reactive defence to proactive disruption

The technology was developed as part of the team’s investigation into a sophisticated and established fraud network. By identifying recurring patterns across apparently unconnected claims, it enabled the team to build a clearer picture of the wider operation.

Crucially, the innovation was not simply the use of AI. The team designed the technology around the evidence that matters in complex fraud litigation, including financial transactions, shared addresses, claims histories and open-source associations. It converted these different sources into clear network intelligence that could be tested and used to support legal action.

A model for the future

The team’s pioneering approach was recognised with the Fraud Intelligence Team of the Year award, reflecting how its combination of AI, legal expertise and specialist intelligence is helping to reshape the response to complex fraud.

Damian Rourke, Partner, said:

“Fraud is constantly evolving and becoming increasingly sophisticated. To protect our clients effectively, we must remain at the cutting edge and continually adapt our technology, intelligence and legal strategies.

“This work represents a genuinely different approach. We developed a bespoke and adaptive AI capability around the evidence that matters most in complex fraud investigations, enabling us to identify connections in real time and build a picture of the wider network rather than treating each claim in isolation. As fraudsters continue to evolve their tactics, lawyers will increasingly need an understanding of how AI can be used effectively alongside legal and investigative expertise to help clients respond.

“This award is fantastic recognition of the innovation, expertise and determination across our national Fraud team, and of our commitment to ensuring clients are equipped to defend even the most sophisticated and egregious fraud.”

The team received the award at a ceremony at The Brewery, London, on Thursday 1 October.

The award reflects the strength of our 90+ strong UK Fraud team, led by Damian Rourke and Clare Davis, with colleagues based across Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester. The team brings together legal, investigative and intelligence expertise to help clients identify, defend and defeat fraudulent claims.
